East Midlands
- Derbyshire is a large county. Derby City is located in the southern part of the county whichy has a population of around 960,000. The largest part of Britain's first national park, the Peak District National Park, lies in Derbyshire.
- Leicestershire is a diverse county in the centre of the region with a population of around 900,000 and covers Leicester City and seven district or borough councils. The county has exceptional transport links. The county is predominantly rural, but has many vibrant market towns and suburban communities. Leicestershire has a wealth of heritage sites both natural and built, reflecting the different uses of land, populations and historical monuments.
- Northamptonshire lies close to the centre of England and is essentially rural. The main towns are Northampton, Kettering, Wellingborough and Corby. The county town is Northamptonand the county is divided into seven districts.
- Rutland UA is Britain’s smallest county. This is a very attractive rural area which contains within it a fine old market town (Oakham), two famous old schools (Oakham and Uppingham), a major air base (RAF Cottesmore) and one of the region’s main tourist attractions (Rutland Water).
